In 'Games Without Frontiers', Kate Bush sings a chorus that has understandably left many fans wondering just exactly what is being said. The line, which is repeated several times during each chorus and is repeated as the song ends, is 'Jeux sans frontieres'. It is French for 'games without borders' and many have speculated that Gabriel borrowed the phrase from a popular 70's game show of the same name.
"Games Without Borders" has existed in several forms throughout Europe since the 70's and has also been broadcast in Britain under the name "It's a Knockout". The game pits several teams -- each representing their home countries -- against each other in a series of challanges such as climbing greased poles or standing on stacked milk crates.
